More in This Series
This class will discuss all perspectives and have an open conversation about the LGBTQ+ community. We will go over the basics of identity and how to support our youth and teens who identify as LGBTQ+. We will cover the high number of youth in foster care that identify as LGBTQ+. You will learn how to be inclusive and create a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth looking at your own strengths and needs related to providing affirming care. You will understand the difference between an ally and an advocate, and participate in exercises and scenario activities. You will learn the importance of inclusivity, understand how members of the LGBTQ+ community are marginalized and how to be a Safe Zone for queer and questioning youth. What are available support and resources and the rights afforded foster youth will be covered.
