Learn about different college options. Exposes participants to the three college systems, California State University, University of California, and Community College. Participants get to experience college life and gain knowledge to pursue higher education. AISI also provides culturally relevant curriculum around community and more!
The American Indian Summer Institute (AISI) is part of the SMUD/ARC Institute for California Native Student Success at ARC.
AISI is a weeklong summer bridge program for local California Native youth and the general tribal citizens to which they are connected as a community. AISI generally takes place in June of each year and is in-person. The program’s home base is ARC; however, the program includes field trips to UC Davis and Sacramento State University.
The goal of AISI is to bridge Native youth into successful matriculation into college with continuity of connection to Native mentors. The program is open to Sacramento regional tribal youth who are entering 11th and 12th grades (10th grade entering acceptable for tribal citizens of United Auburn Indian Community, Wilton Rancheria, Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, and Ione Band of Miwok Indians).
SMUD and ARC are the primary sponsors of AISI. Local tribes and local K-12 Indian Education programs also contribute.
