ARC students are eligible for the Honors Transfer Certificate by completing 15 units of approved Honors coursework. Students who successfully complete five Honors courses receive a transcript notation showing that they have earned the certificate.
In addition to the transcript notation, completion of the certificate with a 3.5 or better GPA makes a student eligible for enhanced prospects for transfer to competitive schools through the ARC Honors Program's partnerships with UCLA, UC Irvine, and other public and private four-year institutions. These enhanced transfer partnerships are ONLY available to students who complete the certificate requirements with the minimum GPA, and are in addition to transfer admission guarantees (TAG) or transfer admission agreements (TAA) offered through ARC.
American River College does not automatically confer certificates because requirements vary from program to program. For information on how to petition for a Certificate at ARC, including the Honors Certificate, please navigate here: https://arc.losrios.edu/why-arc/graduation-and-transfer/get-a-certificate
Honors Transfer Opportunities
The HTCC negotiates transfer partnerships with colleges and universities. Students completing our programs enjoy enhanced transfer consideration and/or other benefits at the partner campuses. These may include guaranteed or priority acceptance consideration, special scholarships, housing priority, pre-transfer library privileges, recognition of HTCC honors program completion as an indicator of academic rigor, and a range of other academic, cultural, and social benefits. For more information navigate here: https://www.honorstransfercouncil.org/transfer-partners
For more information on Academic Opportunities for Honors Students, including information on The Bay Honors Consortium (BHC) Honors Research Symposium, please navigate here: https://www.honorstransfercouncil.org/students
The UCLA Transfer Alliance Program gives you the opportunity to enhance your ability to transfer to UCLA at the junior level from ARC. Students are certified after completing the ARC Honors Certificate and given priority consideration for admission to the College. Historically, ARC students are 74% more likely to be admitted to UCLA if they receive an Honors Certificate and apply using the TAP protocols than students applying without TAP. TAP Eligible majors within the College of Letters and Science can be found in the link below. You should complete as many preparatory courses for your major as possible prior to transferring, based on the availability of the courses at your current or local schools. ARC students are strongly encouraged to complete IGETC prior to transfer. Some majors are highly selective; for these UCLA looks for stronger preparation and the completion of most preparatory courses before transferring.
