APPLIED MUSIC

Applied music is instrumental and/or vocal instruction for students that have declared themselves as music majors in the Traditional, Jazz, or AA-T degree programs. Students will receive seven hours of instrumental or vocal instruction for a total cost of one unit of instruction to the student per semester. Students also perform on a recital and for their applied music final (jury) every semester. The applied music program teaches our students a performance skill for the purpose of transferring to an upper level four-year institution as a music major or for employment in the professional world as a working musician.

HOW TO BECOME AN APPLIED STUDENT:

Acceptance into the A.A. Degree in Music, Jazz Studies, or AA-T program is contingent upon an audition or performance assessment. Auditions are held at the end of the semester before the one to which you are applying. Auditions for Fall semester are on the first Friday of finals week of the prior Spring semester; auditions for Spring semester are on the first Friday of finals week of the prior Fall semester. Applied music audition sign-ups begin one month prior to the audition date. You may sign up for an audition through the applied music coordinator. An accompanist is generally not provided but can be arranged if there is a need. Please be sure to provide two extra copies of your audition pieces. Suggested repertoire and jury requirements can be found in the PDF documents below. Students will be contacted through e-mail  regarding the results of their audition. A permission number will be needed in order to enroll in the correct section of Applied Music.
