This class will teach resource parents, STRP staff, educators, and other services providers how to advocate and create learning environments for youth of color that meets their specific needs. The materials will come from the Department of Education’s publication “Disrupting Disproportionate Outcomes” as well as other research and resources that are specific to foster youth. This class will focus on improving race equity within classrooms and programs and disrupting the exclusionary disciplinary practices— suspensions, expulsions, and pushouts—that disproportionately impact youngest Boys of Color. The class will address implicit bias and how everyone can work together as a team to meet the needs of children of color in school system.
