TRIO Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science

Upward Bound (UB) is a project funded by the U.S. Department of Education and is administered by American River College (ARC). The purpose of this project is to encourage students facing financial barriers to higher education as determined by federal eligibility criteria to complete high school and go on to college. Our program serves 60 students from Center High School, 60 students at Inderkum High School/Del Campo High School and 60 students from El Camino Fundamental High School.

Who can participate in Upward Bound

Students applying for the American River College Upward Bound Program must meet the following criteria

  1. Must be facing financial barriers to higher education as determined by federal eligibility criteria.
  2. Attend Center High School, El Camino Fundamental High School, Del Campo High School or Inderkum High School.
  3. Be in grade 9th-12th
  4. Will be attending college right after high school.
  5. Participate In all Upward Bound events/activities during the academic year.
  6. Attend our mandatory six-week summer program.

Application Process

  1. Complete application 
    1. Online
    2. Pickup an application at the following location:
      1. For Inderkum High School-UB office located at Natomas Center, Second floor
      2. For Center High School-Room 703
      3. For El Camino Fundamental High school-Room 56
      4. Del Campo High school College & Career Center, Room 32
  2. Application will be evaluated
  3. Student and Parent/Guardian will be invited for an interview
  4. Student and Parent/Guardian will be notified of the program's decision

Services Upward Bound provides

Upward Bound will provide participants with a variety of free engaging, educational enrichment, and community-building programs and/or workshops listed below:

  • Personal one-on-one support from a trained Upward Bound professional
  • College Preparation Activities.
  • Tutoring
  • Once a month mandatory Saturday College
  • Six-week mandatory Summer Program
  • Academic, financial, and career guidance
  • Career exploration and aptitude assessment
  • College Visits
  • Educational enrichment programming
  • Workshops for the parents of participants
