Activity |
Duties |
January - February |
Partner identifies Fall/Spring courses and projects number of students. For Twin Rivers, they are planning for the entire year. Note: since pathways have now been identified, we know which courses are planned. We are now more focused on the number of sections needed to fill to capacity. |
· Send reminder emails to partners for student numbers. TRs needs to get numbers from each of the high school counselors and this can take time. |
March –April |
Once number of students have been identified for each of the courses, we can determine the exact number of sections needed. VPI identifies the amount of FTE that can be offered. |
· Send finalized courses/sections to partners. · Email instructional deans and the appropriate department chairs with the needed courses/number of sections. Request names of instructors and sections to which they are assigned and ISBN for textbooks. If using OER, provide that information as well. TR interprets the Williams Act as needing to have a hardcopy or PDF available of digital materials for core subjects. · It is expected that only experienced online instructors are being assigned to these sections. See information below Canvas and teaching online - ARC Instructors · Document course/instructor/section/textbook for each partner in a Google Doc that can be shared with partner for purchasing and planning. Google doc allows for updating if section is deleted or added or if textbook is changed. o With Follett as our new bookstore vendor, there may be some new challenges faced in our partners securing textbooks. · Send completed course/instructor/section/textbook Google link to partner so that they can start textbook purchase. · Solicit NEAs for processing (me to Koue Vang to DO. DO informs me (or replacement) of the W-ID# assigned) |
April |
Planning for Fall launch to include instructor training etc. |
· Contact ITC Coordinators itctraining@arc.losrios.edu for late Summer Canvas Training for high school instructors. |
May-August |
Check-in with partners |
· Textbook status · Training (students and high school instructors) |
August |
Semester begins |
· Communicate with ARC instructors by sending welcome to semester email; provide them with contact information for their high schools to include counselors, teachers, manager, and times students are assigned to labs (ARC instructor may want to have a virtual office hour during these lab times or other synchronous activity) Here is an example from Twin Rivers · Ensure that students have received appropriate textbooks at all sites. · ARC instructors new to teaching high schoolers. See Suggestions from ARC/Twin Rivers Instructors below. · The ARC instructors will need to add the high school instructors to Canvas courses with NEA-sanctioned IDs to their courses. They should use the role of “tutor” as this has the same permissions as student but distinguishes them from students. · Throughout the semester, serve as the contact between the ARC instructors/ARC Deans and the high school partners. ARC Instructors contact me if there is an issue with a student or something having to do with Canvas. High school Director or counselor will do the same. |
September |
Cycle repeats as above |
|
The high school purchasing department may order books through the ARC bookstore (college store #2213). The bookstore will set up an open purchase order at a partner's request.
