FAQ

Are there physical bookstores at all four Los Rios colleges?

American River College and Sacramento City College will continue to have physical campus bookstore locations that students can visit in person. However, Folsom Lake College and Cosumnes River College will be no longer have on‑campus bookstores. Students at all campuses will have full online access to purchase textbooks, course materials, supplies, and college merchandise, and can use the ARC and SCC physical stores if they prefer.

Why aren’t there physical bookstores at CRC or FLC anymore?

The increase in students taking classes online, as well as the number of faculty offering free online textbooks, has led to a significant decrease in traffic in our physical bookstores.

At our larger colleges, American River College and Sacramento City College, the student population is still large enough to make in-person stores possible. At Cosumnes River College and Folsom Lake College, there aren’t enough students on campus to make that model viable.

However, students at Folsom Lake College and Cosumnes River College – where there will be no on‑campus bookstores – will have full online access to purchase textbooks, course materials, supplies, and college merchandise, and can use the ARC and SCC physical stores if they prefer.

Will there be pop-up bookstores at CRC and FLC during peak times?

Yes, pop-up locations will be available at both CRC and FLC during peak periods. These pop-ups are intended solely for the pickup of textbooks and course materials ordered online. They are not full retail stores and will not offer general merchandise or miscellaneous items for purchase. Pop-up dates and hours are still being finalized and will be published as soon as they are available. As a reminder, ship-to-home is offered at a flat rate regardless of order size, and shipping to any Los Rios campus is free.

When will the bookstores at ARC and SCC be open?

Campus bookstores at ARC and SCC will be closed from July 3 through July 12 while Barnes & Noble sets up the stores. They will re-open on July 13.

The online bookstore will be available starting on July 13.
