A Mastery-Based Approach to Learning Math

At the MLC, you will find a mastery-based approach to learning math under the guidance of an instructor and with tutorial support. You will learn by reading, watching video lectures, and completing practice problems.

To be successful

You will need to be:

  • Self-motivated
  • Committed to staying ahead of testing deadlines.

In the MLC, you can do the following:

  • Complete a transfer-level math course using a mastery-based approach.
  • Work quickly on easier material so that you can spend more time on what you need to learn.
  • Receive regular help and feedback from your instructor.
  • Get help from tutors any time we are open.
  • Work at your own pace: Take the whole semester to complete your course or work quickly and complete your course early.

Course Offerings

The MLC offers the following courses:

  • Math 300: Introduction to Mathematical Ideas (enrollment in MathS 95 Support might be required)
  • Math 333: Introduction to College Algebra (enrollment in MathS 33 Support might also be required)

Students not meeting the Intermediate Algebra perquisite can enroll in Math 300 or Math 333 if also enrolled in the corequisite support course.

Required Materials for Math 333

Access to Course Materials: You will need to purchase access to course materials that are owned by Pearson Publishing.

Course Workbook: You can get your free workbook in the MLC or at the bookstore. You can order it to be delivered by mail for a small fee.

Program Highlights

  • Regular one-on-one interactions with your instructor.
  • Tutoring services in-person and online.
  • You only have to attend/log in once per week (twice in summer sessions) – but you MUST attend at those times.
  • You must master each module – with a score of at least 70% on an exam – before moving on to the next one.
  • You must master all modules before you can take the final exam.
  • If you don’t complete all modules, or if you don’t complete the final exam, you can’t pass the course.
