Puente Project
Accelerated Instruction, Counseling, and Mentorship
Puente combines accelerated instruction, intensive academic counseling, and mentoring by members of the community. The Puente Project is a national award-winning program that has helped tens of thousands of educationally disadvantaged students to enroll in four-year year colleges and universities, earn degrees, and return to the community as leaders and mentors to future generations.
Puente students, or Puentistas, work closely with their counselor, English instructor, and mentor to prepare for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. The writing curriculum focuses on the development of college-level essay writing, reading, research, and critical thinking skills, a necessary foundation for educational success.
You will receive counseling, including curriculum guidance through the Human/Career Development (HCD) department. Courses include an orientation to college resources, transfer, and four-year college information. The counseling includes educational planning, course selection, and choice of major.
You can also participate in an annual transfer motivational conference and enjoy volunteer opportunities, as well as visits to four-year universities, and community- and cultural-based activities throughout the academic year.
Students will choose one of two writing pathways (see below) and courses are offered in-person, hybrid, and online. To register, email PUENTE staff at ARCPuente@arc.losrios.edu to receive permission numbers for the ENGWR and HCD sections.

Puente offers personal one-on-one mentoring by local professionals who volunteer 15-18 hours during the academic year. Puente mentors support faculty by building social and cultural capital needed for future success as college students and career professionals. All mentors are trained to follow mentor guidelines and serve as successful career role models.
Puente Club
The Puente Club is a student organization that provides opportunities for leadership and student involvement on campus and in the community to include social and cultural activities, outreach to local high schools, and ways to create informal connections with fellow Puentistas. Students interested in being active in the community (on-campus/off-campus) are encouraged to join.
