Transfer to a Four-Year College
Make a plan for transfer success
Students who plan to transfer to the California State University (CSU) system, the University of California (UC) system, or to a private or out-of-state college or university should meet with a counselor to develop a plan. This will ensure you meet the requirements for the specific institution you plan to attend.
Transfer eligibility is based on transferable college units and/or high school records and test scores. Each institution has its own requirements for admission and junior standing. To prepare for transfer:
- Decide where you want to transfer
- Talk to a counselor about that school's specific requirements
- Create an educational plan

Associate Degrees for Transfer
Students who receive an associate degree for transfer (ADT) at a community college are guaranteed admission with junior standing to a California State University (CSU).
California Community College students may now take advantage of a new initiative that facilitates the transfer to a number of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). By completing the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum requirements (known as IGETC and accepted at both the University of California and the California State University) or the California State University General Education Breadth pattern (known as CSU GE) and obtaining a transfer-level associate degree (60 units) with a 2.5 or higher grade point average, students are guaranteed admission with junior standing to participating HBCUs.
Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG)
We offer guaranteed admission to numerous four-year institutions. Students may file a transfer admission guarantee (TAG) form after completing certain requirements. Talk to your counselor to learn more.
