English Composition Classes
Path 1: Academic Reading and Writing – ENGL C1000 Placement (formerly ENGWR 300 Placement)
First Semester
Enroll in one of the following:
- ENGL C1000: Academic Reading and Writing
- ENGL C1000H: Academic Reading and Writing - Honors
Notes
- Both courses satisfy local AA/AS and Cal-GETC 1A requirements. Each course is three (3) units.
- Any student eligible for the ENGL C1000 course is also eligible for the Honors version. Students taking ENGL C1000H can work to earn the ARC Honors Transfer Certificate Program.
- If you have previously taken and passed ENGWR 300, you do not need to take ENGL C1000/C1000H.
Second Semester
Enroll in one of the following:
- ENGL C1001: Writing and Critical Thinking
- ENGL C1001H: Writing and Critical Thinking - Honors
- ENGWR 301: College Composition and Literature
- ENGWR 303: Argumentative Writing and Critical Thinking Through Literature
- ENGWR 481: Honors College Composition and Literature
Notes
- These courses meet local AA/AS and Cal-GETC 1B requirements.
- These courses are part of several local and transfer degrees, including the English AA-T.
- Some students benefit from completing both ENGL C1001/C1001H and ENGWR 301/481. Please see a counselor to find out if this applies to your major or transfer goal.
- Students taking ENGL C1001H or ENGWR 481 can work to earn the ARC Honors Transfer Certificate Program.
- If you have previously taken and passed ENGWR 302/482, you do not need to take ENGL C1001/C1001H.
Path 2: Academic Reading and Writing with Support – ENGWR 94/ENGL C1000 Combo Placement (formerly ENGRW 94/ENGWR 300 Combo Placement)
First Semester
Students take a combination of courses designed to ensure their success. Enroll in both of the following:
- ENGL C1000: Academic Reading and Writing (a transfer-level writing class)
- ENGWR 94: Succeeding in College Composition (a support class designed to help you succeed in the core transfer-level class).
Notes
- Each ENGWR 94 has its own required section of ENGWR 300.
- The ENGL C1000 course satisfies local AA/AS and Cal-GETC 1A requirements. The two-course combo is five (5) units, with ENGWR 94 providing two (2) units and ENGL C1000 providing three (3) units.
- If you have previously taken and passed ENGWR 300, you do not need to take ENGL C1000.
Second Semester
Enroll in one of the following:
- ENGL C1001: Writing and Critical Thinking
- ENGL C1001H: Writing and Critical Thinking - Honors
- ENGWR 301: College Composition and Literature
- ENGWR 303: Argumentative Writing and Critical Thinking Through Literature
- ENGWR 481: Honors College Composition and Literature
