Most of our tutoring is appointment-based. Students can schedule either 30-minute or 60-minute appointments with a tutor. Students registered with DSP&S (Disability Services & Programs for Students) may schedule up to two hours of tutoring per course, per day. We also offer limited drop-in tutoring for select subjects. In addition, our Instructional Assistants provide drop-in tutoring during designated hours.
We offer both in-person and online tutoring. If you are scheduling an appointment through Penji, you can select whether you prefer in-person or online. If you are scheduling through our front desk, let us know your preference, and we will arrange your online appointment via Zoom.
- Call our front desk at (916) 484-8808, and a staff member will assist you.
- Use Penji, our online scheduling platform. A tutorial video is available on our main page to guide you through the process.
- Visit the Learning Resource Center in person during business hours.

If you cannot make your appointment, please cancel or reschedule as soon as possible. If you scheduled through Penji, you can cancel or modify your appointment directly in the app. If you scheduled through our front desk, call (916) 484-8808 to update your appointment. This helps us offer the time slot to another student.
If you miss three scheduled appointments without notifying us in advance, you will no longer be able to make appointments through Penji. At that point, you will need to meet with a front desk staff member or the Tutoring Coordinator to discuss your tutoring needs before being allowed to schedule additional appointments. We are here to support you, and this step helps ensure our services are accessible to all students.
Yes. If you connect well with a tutor and would like to continue working with them, we can set up a recurring appointment for the same day and time each week throughout the semester. Just let us know, and we will be happy to arrange it.
Our tutors are trained peers who have successfully completed the courses they tutor. They are friendly, supportive, and here to help you better understand the material and build confidence in your learning. In addition to peer tutors, we also have Tutor II/Readers, who are advanced tutors in subjects such as math and English. These tutors have completed higher-level coursework in their subject area and typically hold at least an associate degree. They bring additional expertise to support students with more advanced or specialized learning needs.
