Tutoring is a paid position and a great opportunity to support your peers, strengthen your communication skills, and build your resume. We offer two tutoring positions: Peer Tutors and Advanced Tutor II (available on an as-needed basis).
Peer Tutor
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible to become a tutor at the LRC, you must:
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Have earned an A or B in the course(s) you wish to tutor.
- Be enrolled in at least six units during the semester you are employed as required by Los Rios’s policy.
- Successfully complete LRC 300: Tutor Training Course (details below)
LRC 300: Tutor Training Course
All tutors are required to take LRC 300, a one-unit tutor training course that introduces effective tutoring strategies and communication techniques.
- Fall and Spring: Offered in hybrid format, with both in-person and online components.
- Summer: Offered as a fully asynchronous online
You may enroll in LRC 300 prior to your first semester as a tutor.

Advanced Tutor II
Note: Advanced Tutor II positions are limited and only hired on an as-needed basis. These positions are currently available only for Math and English tutoring.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must hold an Associate degree in the tutoring subject or a related field
OR - Have completed advanced coursework in the subject area
- Demonstrate strong subject matter expertise
- Have at least one year of tutoring experience
