Mutual Responsibility Agreements

Upon applying and being accepted to participate in ARC’s EOP&S/CARE Program, students are asked to partner with the program by agreeing to the following Mutual Responsibility Agreements. The agreements are a partnership with student participants in support of achieving their academic, enrollment, retention, transfer, and career goals and to maintain program eligibility for the duration of 70-degree-applicable units (unless participants have an approved unit load reduction MOU with DSPS or are in a college-designated high unit major). Students who have reached or surpassed the allowable unit limit are no longer eligible for program participation.

Note: Fall and Spring term participation are the core terms for program services. Summer enrollment is not required. Counseling services are still available for eligible current participants during the summer term. Units earned during the summer term will be added to a student’s total degree-applicable units.

Participants who do not maintain eligibility through the mutual agreements risk losing program eligibility for continued participation. Participants who lose program eligibility will be unable to continue in the program for the following term. Students who lose eligibility may reapply for a future term after sitting out for at least one term. Prior participation in the EOP&S Program does not guarantee reacceptance upon reapplication.

However, students who lose eligibility for reaching or surpassing the 70-degree applicable unit limit would no longer be eligible to reapply.

Mutual Responsibility Agreements

  • Upon acceptance into the ARC EOP&S/CARE Program, I will complete an EOP&S/CARE orientation at ARC as a first-time participant, even if I have participated in the program before.
  • To be eligible to receive EOP&S/CARE Program services at ARC, as a new EOP&S/CARE participant, I will enroll in 12 units or more, and as a continuing EOP&S/CARE student, I will enroll in 9 units or more during each semester (unless there is a DSPS memo approved and submitted).
  • If I plan to enroll in any course at another Los Rios campus(es), I will remain enrolled in at least one course at ARC to maintain program eligibility at ARC.
  • To continue program participation, I will follow my Student Ed Plan created by my EOP&S/CARE counselor when enrolling in classes, and I will consult with an EOP&S/CARE counselor if I want to make changes to my class schedule.
  • I will consult with an EOP&S/CARE Counselor before I drop courses/units that would result in less than 12 units because it may affect my EOP&S/CARE eligibility. I understand that I must successfully complete minimum of 9 units per semester (unless I have an approved unit load reduction memo through DSPS on file with the EOP&S/CARE Program).
  • I will meet with an EOP&S/CARE counselor if I encounter academic, financial, and/or personal difficulties during any semester while participating in the EOP&S/CARE Program to help guide my decisions.
  • I will complete three (3) contacts with an EOP&S/CARE Counselor per semester, either in person, via Zoom, or by phone. These contacts will be completed during the semester calendar dates included in the EOP&S/CARE Program “Important Dates” document posted in the My EOPS at ARC Canvas shell.
  • I will maintain academic progress (GPA above 2.0) towards an educational goal such as a Certificate, Associate Degree, or Transfer. I understand that if my GPA falls below 2.0, I will participate in the Academic Improvement Monitoring (AIM) Program with my EOP&S/CARE Counselor, and my priority registration may be affected.
  • To receive monetary support services at ARC from the EOP&S/CARE Program, I will complete the FAFSA and/or CADAA application each year, have a CCPG Fee Waiver on file each term, make American River College my home college, and be enrolled in 12 units or more by the first week of classes each term as a first-time participant (continuing participants must be enrolled in 9 units or more unless a unit load reduction memo through DSPS is on file with the EOP&S/CARE Program).
  • I understand that the EOP&S/CARE Program reports ALL monetary support services to Financial Aid to ensure that participants are not over-awarded. I understand that once my unmet need is reached, the EOP&S/CARE Program can no longer provide me with any additional monetary support services.
  • I understand that the EOP&S/CARE Program monetary grant/award is to purchase textbooks or academic supplies for my education and to accomplish my academic goals each semester.
  • I will keep my address/name/phone information current through my eServices.
  • I will stay in continuous communication with the program, and I understand that appointment reminder alerts, phone calls, or emails from the program are a courtesy. It is my responsibility to complete all program requirements as stated above and check my Los Rios email regularly.
